Ford’s line of ST performance models continues to grow throughout the years. With the latest addition to the family, the Edge ST, released just this year, no one would think that Ford could push the boundaries with an SUV even further, right? Well, the full-size Ford Explorer would say otherwise. Coming soon to Whiteoak Ford in the near future, not only will the Explorer return for the 2020 model year, but it’s also coming back with an all-new ST model, joining the ranks of many Ford Performance vehicles before it. Here’s your first look at the all-new Explorer ST.
The truest mark of an ST model is with its incredible performance specs. The Explorer ST carries on this tradition, boasting a Twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost® engine that produces up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This kind of power pushes the Explorer to 229 km/h—impressive to say the least! The Explorer ST also comes standard with Ford’s impressive 10-speed automatic transmission, as well as All-wheel Drive.
Additionally, the Explorer ST has a sport driving mode that adds extra heft to the power steering system, giving a more tightened suspension, improved throttle response, and changes the transmission mapping according to the condition you’re driving in. Plus, there’s additional engine noise going into the cabin, so you can really hear how much of a beast this SUV really is.
Of course, there’s always unique styling elements you’ll only see with an ST model. In addition to the exclusive ST badging found across the vehicle, its Performance Blue body makes for a striking appearance, no matter whether your cruising in the city or blasting along the highway. The Explorer ST also features large 21-inch high gloss wheels to accentuate its aggressive stance on the roads. When you step inside, though, you’ll see special ST sport bucket seats and embroidery throughout the premium leather material, letting you sit comfortably for a ride, protected with heavily-fastened seatbelts.
